My AIESEC : My Learning Network :)

Learning Networks - a powerful concept that was initiated by AIESEC some years ago, to bring across physical & virtual learning (attain, track and reflect) and put them into a structured format guided/driven by Issues that are relevant in today's world.

From that day where it was just a thought within the confines of the Global office of AIESEC to today, where that same idea has taken shape, structure and transformed my life and my thought process and those of countless others associated with such Networks. Today, AIESEC globally, nationally and locally works on countless Issues aligning them to the same structure of Learning Networks that was envisioned years ago.

Locally speaking, in Baroda we have at least 9 Issues that we work with and most of them are aligned to global standards of a Learning Network. While I was LC VP DT and LCP for my Local Chapter - I had the good fortune and pleasure to work with some amazing individuals, ideas and Issues which truly transformed my understanding of those Issues. This in turn, as reflected in the previous post - changed how I'd look at decision making for certain aspects of my life for e.g. Career.

So, two of the Issues that I would like to highlight here which really have impacted very many AIESEC Baroda members and interns alike are:
  • Project Gaia: A project that revolves around creating awareness towards Environmental Issues and sensitizing today's youth to take actions towards the Issues at hand.
Darya Shatrova a CEED (and Intern for another Company) that we had from Russia in 2007 had this to say about the project structure: "Currently we implemented 5 elements of Global learning Environment: self-discovery, learning circles, seminars and conferences, virtual spaces, team experience. We prepared special learning log for our organizing committee and trainees, which is supposed to help them in the learning process (general AIESEC knowledge, project details, planning, sharing thoughts, feedback, developing competencies and skills). After the project realization these workbooks will be signed by NGOs (it will be like Case Study after the internship)................."

Mikey, an Intern from China during the same period voiced her thoughts about her activities: "Last weekend,we started to plant trees with a NGO named TREE LOVER.After two days' hard work , twenty five lovely young trees settled their new home beside the road in Baroda................."

More details about their experience, learning and activities can be found at Gaia Blog

  • Project One World: A project that revolves around creating awareness about various different Cultures among School students and Youth through various activities and events so as to sensitize them towards different types of people, countries, lifestyles, games, etc. (And at the same time representing the India Culture to Interns from outside India).
Me: "One Race. One Face. One Place : One World"

Moatassem (or Mo!), an Intern from Egypt (but born and brought up in Palestine) in 2008 for Project One World, had these words to say on behalf of the entire Team: "One World, One Target, One School... But Different Countries. it's actually what's happening now in GPS as peoject "one world" started it's first 2 sessions, its one target which is raising cultural awareness through different activities and presentations, it's one school as we are giving our presentations in one school which is GUJARAT PUBLIC SCHOOL (GPS)/Baroda/India. And logically it's different countries as there are alot of interns coming from different countries around the globe just for sending peace message & hopes for the future.

16 interns are representing 9 countries, Full of information and cultural awareness... A target looking for the students awareness of the other cultures and other countries and other people, how do they live! how do they think! how do they deal with one another, It's a place connecting 9 cultures with the indian cultures and vise-versa.................."

More details about their experience and learning and activities can be found at One World Blog.

As they say, this is just a droplet of water in a vast ocean of similar experiences, learning and reflection of Issues that plague today's world - and it is all possible due to the amalgamation of the Virtual and Physical platforms of the Learning Network of AIESEC.

Learning going virtual!!

AIESEC India has been running a physical learning platform comprised of workshops, conference plenary speeches, and local partner engagement in issue-based projects.
According to our Physical LN survey done in Feburary 2009. (sample survey: 97)
61% of our membership have attended workshops delivered in a national conference.
84% of our membership have attended workshops delivered in a local conference
81% of the membership says " the knowledge I've gained regarding the issues have influenced my action"

Now we wish to integrate our learning platform virtually and encourage our external stakeholdrs and membership to actively interact with each other through this platform.

On this blog, we will be inviting our membership to share their experiences in LN and externals to share knowledge and open discussions on young people's action towards social and economic issues.

Stay tuned for AIESEC India Learning Networks, going virtual! :)
